When to start cursive, and how

Class 3 is the usual point where Indian schools expect cursive. But the right time isn't a class number — it's when print letters are consistent in size and sitting on the line. Starting cursive before that usually makes handwriting worse.

Letter families, not the alphabet

Teach cursive in groups that share a movement: c, a, d, g, q all start the same way. So do i, u, w, t. Going a-to-z ignores how the hand actually works.

Joins are the hard part

Individual cursive letters come quickly. The joins — especially after o, v, w — take weeks. Practise whole words rather than single letters for exactly this reason.

Slow is the point

Cursive is meant to be faster eventually, but early practice must be slow. If your child is racing, cut the number of words and increase the letter size.

Use their spelling list

Paste the week's spelling words. Then cursive practice and spelling practice happen in the same ten minutes, and neither feels like extra work.

Common questions

Usually Class 3, but only once print letters sit steadily on the line.
Yes — paste the words, one per line.
The style is close but not an exact match to every school's copybook. Check with your child's teacher if the school is strict about a particular style.
Yes, switch off the fade option and you'll get a model line plus blanks.
